Everything began in 1966 when the company was founded, in northern Italy, by Sergio Tacchini, the International Tennis player who was a singles player in the Davis Cup for Italy from 1959 to 1966.
The brand immediately introduced great innovation in style, using colours and stripes at a time when tennis players only wore white.
During the 70´s and 80´s, the brand´s name became synonymous with style and elegance but mostly the brand become an international leader in professional tennis with worldwide recognition through celebrity endorsements from some of the greatest tennis champions of all time; John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, Martina Navratilova, Gabriela Sabatini, Pete Sampras, Pat Cash, Vitas Gerulaitis, Martina Hingis and many more.
During these years Connors and Gerulaitis were the first of many Sergio Tacchini sponsored champions who won 34 Gland Slam titles over a forty-year period.
During these years McEnroe with his strong personality becomes number one in the world, playing spectacular matches and collecting Grand Slam titles, while Jimmy Connors and Ilie Nastase rocked their disruptive styles on the conservative courts of Wimbledon.Throughout the 80s, Sergio Tacchini widened its portfolio and sponsorships by embracing sports as diverse as Formula 1 with Ayrton Senna and Carlos Reutemann, skiing with Marc Girardelli and Pirmin Zurbriggen and golf with Ian Woosnam.
During the 80s and 90s, footwear and accessories were added to the collection, as well as product offerings in new sectors such as Ski, Golf, Beach and Leisurewear. All infused with Sergio Tacchini´s signature Italian style of quality, innovation and ´active elegance´.
During the 90s, thanks to strong product development across all its clothing lines, the company succeeded in creating a ´total look´ brand, appealing to anyone looking to bridge the gap between sport and style. Great celebrity testimonials and endorsements meant that Sergio Tacchini was now a benchmark in sportswear across the globe.
In 1991, the company continued to innovate by opening its first ´mono-brand´ store in Turin, Italy, pioneering a revolution in sportswear retailing that would give rise to 200 such stores throughout Europe by the end of the 90s.
Wearing Sergio Tacchini, Marc Girardelli won 3 Ski World Cups and in tennis Pete Sampras and Sergi Bruguera were number 1 and number 4 in the ATP world ranking. The brand was confirmed as the world leader in tennis.
In 1996 Sergio Tacchini was official supplier of the Italian delegation at the Olympic Games in Atlanta, thus bringing great International recognition to the creativity and tradition of the brand.
At the end of the 90s other big names as Costantino Rocca in golf, and Goran Ivanisevic and Martina Hingis in tennis confirmed the great tradition of Sergio Tacchini in endorsing the best international champions in different sports.
The millennium opened with sponsorship of new tennis champions, such as Juan Carlos Ferrero, Tommy Robredo, Filippo Volandri and Flavia Pennetta.
Nowadays Sergio Tacchini, with new management and ownership, focuses on tennis and sponsorship of great events in this sport.
In 2009, the international tennis team was made up of great International players such as Tommy Robredo, Flavia Pennetta, Ivo Karlovic, Victor Hanescu, Steve Darcis, Olivier Rochus, Roberta Vinci, Tathiana Garbin and Sara Errani
In 2009 the brand was also the technical sponsor of three ATP Master 1000 Tournaments: MonteCarlo Rolex Master, Internazionali BNL di Roma, Shanghai ATP Master 1000. These prestigious tournaments were important to the brand as they represent international recognition for a brand with a rich tennis tradition.
With 2010 the STI Team will see the arrival of the Serbian player Novak Djokovic who will be the new Sergio Tacchini Global Brand Ambassador for tennis.
The young player in 2011 has become n. 1 in the ATP worldwide ranking, winning almost all the major Tournaments, including Australian Open and Wimbledon.
At Flushing Meadows Djiokovic wins his third Grand Slam title in 2011. Deafeating Nadal, the Serbian player confirms his N. 1 position in the ATP ranking.
The Brand Ambassador , number 1 in ATP ranking thanks to an amazing serie of victories, has won 3 Grand Slam titles: Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open.
